I have been selected by BlogHer and JCPenney to be an ambassador for JCPenney. While I have been compensated for my time, my opinions are my own.
Memorial Day is around the corner the official start to summer and it can be a hectic time of year. Summer time means kids home from school, vacations, barbecues and visitors. The guest room’s peak season is around the holidays and in the summer, be it because you are having visitors or someone is housesitting for you while you take that vacation to the theme park you have always wanted to visit. We are all looking for ways to simplify life, especially during the busy seasons. It’s summer time and don’t you want to spend more time out in the sun than home with chores? A great way to keep summer visitors comfortable and self sufficient is by setting up the guest room with a few well placed and easy to find essentials.
I wanted to keep guest essentials organized in a practical, yet stylish way and JCPenney had everything I was looking for and at the right price. The prices will be even sweeter during the Memorial Day Sale and sweeter still if you’re the lucky winner of a $100 gift card! Keep reading to learn more! My supply list:
- Michael Graves Design pop-up hamper
- Michael Graves Design medium storage bin
- Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler Star Storage Box
- Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler Chloe Studded Tray Small (the Jonathan Adler Catherine Round Studded Tray is an alternative option)
- 5 X 7 picture frame
Frame an information card that lists important items such as the wifi password, contact info, the nearest coffee shop and the nearest shopping center and movie theater. Provide a tray stocked with some essentials like a note pad, extra key, universal charger, earbuds (cleaned of course), a small manicure kit and some gum for fresh breath.
It’s also handy to have a luggage rack or bench at the foot of the bed for guests to place their suitcase. Fill a basket with fresh towels and maybe a treat, everyone enjoys finding a surprise treat. It’s also handy to provide your guest with a hamper for dirty clothes and make sure they know they are welcome to launder their clothes before they head back home.
On the nightstand you could provide facial tissues, a lamp, alarm clock and a tray to hold small items like jewelry or change.
Finally my favorite find was this acrylic box from the Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler collection. It’s a simple and stylish box that hides a plethora of must have essentials.
Hiding away in this stylish box is everything a guest may need such as hair products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, cotton balls, cotton swabs and band aids. This way your guest can find what they need instead of digging through your bathroom cabinets. The dimensions are perfect for our guest bathroom. It’s a small bathroom and this box fits perfectly on top of the toilet tank and stays in place with rubber feet.
Organizing your guest room with key supplies is part making your guest feel at home and part keeping the summer craziness at bay. Once your guest leaves, give the room a quick look through, restock, change the sheets and the room is ready for the next guest.
To help you get ready for your guests I’ve provided four versions of my “information center” check list and a chance to win a $100 JCPenney gift card. Tell me your favorite summer #LifeHack in the comments for a chance to win a $100 JCPenney gift card!

My favorite summer #LifeHack is buying all the summer beach essentials every previous year in the fall so we are all ready and set for the next year and can begin going to the beach without worrying of buying something really expensive on site

All these ideas are so great! I also like to include channel listings for the TV since the channels are different depending on the area! Thanks for the giveaway, Meseidy. 🙂

These ideas are perfect when my mother-in-law from Puerto Rico comes to visit. She has always been extremely nice and helpful and truly deserves to be pampered like this. I never know what to do for her to feel welcome besides having a nice hot box of KK doughnuts ready?! I can’t wait to prep for her next visit now.

I Keep my mommy kit in my truck at all time. I keep sunscreen, bug repelent, small emergency kit, H2O and light jackets.
When we ahppened to be in daddy’s truck it’s a nightmare.

I love the picture frame idea! My favorite summer #lifehack is an emergency supply kit filled with mini items that fits inside my purse. It has sunscreen, chafing ointment, band aids, neosporin spray, stain removing stick, q-tips, wet wipes, and aleve. Actually, I keep it in there year-round! Refilling from the “travel” section of the pharmacy as needed.

I love all of these tips! I think the framed info card is my favorite – I mean why WOULDN’T guests need that stuff? It’s always what I ask about when we go anywhere!
Summer #lifehack…hmmmm…in my stage of life it definitely means keeping an extra pair of toddler clothes and swim diapers in a gallon-size plastic bag in our car. You never know when he’ll get filthy and/or want to swim!
(OK that’s a lie, I do know – all the time!)

I like to have potpourri that is subtle yet strong enough to relax you and kind of take you away.

I love your idea of leaving the wifi code and other info in a picture frame! Will definitely beusing that idea this summer, thank you!
I like leaving light throws in handy areas because I like the house cold in the summer and I normally freeze my family and guests!

I like to keep a light jacket for everyone in the car for those times when we go to places to watch a movie, do some shopping or enjoy a meal at a restaurant and the air conditioning is really cold. So many places have the air conditioning way too cold during the summer.

My favorite summer #LifeHack is to keep a bag of essentials always packed for our summer travels of items we typically forget. This way, we don’t forget anything on our trips. I pack sunblock, bug spry, sunglasses for the kids and a few other items.
