Who’s blogging:

Welcome to The Noshery! I’m Meseidy (Meh-say-dee). Wife and mother to three four-legged children (including an ornery Terrier). Graduate of Platt College Culinary Arts Institute. Landlocked Puerto Rican who must be within a five-mile radius of a plantain at all times.

I created The Noshery in 2008 after realizing how much my husband and I missed the food back home in Puerto Rico. Here you’ll find recipes that are always from scratch, ideas inspired by my travels, and cooking techniques I’ve learned along my journey from home-cook to chef—plus some life misadventures, DIY and craft tips, and doggie shenanigans thrown in to keep you on your toes.

And a Canon 5D Mark II camera is the accomplice in my evil plan to make your mouth water by the photos on your screen.

My dishes reflect life as a former military brat with a pinch from here and dash from there. But Puerto Rico and its authentic cooking will always be home. I love pairing interesting ingredients together and am always on a mission to create the perfect bite.

As a chef, recipe developer, caterer, event planner, and food stylist, I’ve worked with Bush’s Baked Beans, Land O’ Lakes, and the Pioneer Woman with more brand and publication partnerships on the horizon—so be on the lookout.

    Thank you so much for your Almond Pillow recipe! I can’t wait to try them. I had never heard of these until two days ago when our book group host had them. I’m uncertain whether she made them or purchased them and since she is out of town I couldn’t wait until she returned to out. I googled almond pillow cookies and found your site. Love it! Love the lab in the photo too!

    what size caldero/pot do you use when you make your recipe for arroz con gandules…( 2 cups rice 4 cups water) .also, is it possible to get to your recipes by looking at a list of them….a long time ago you had a list and I found it so much easier to find a recipe……..

    I made your pastelon and OMG. Was it delicious and easy to make. I’m Puerto rican as well but I’m my mothers last child and by the time I should have learned she was teaching me how to microwave frozen food lol. Im new to cooking and a new mom. Tonight my husband ( from Trinidad ) Actually asked me about seconds and how much was left over for tomorrow. SUCCESS!

    Hi Meseidy,

    I just wanted to thank you for your life saving website. I’m one of a group of about 20 boricuas that left the island 3 years ago to live in San Francisco. Since we are so far from home we have made our own little family of “huerfanos” here in SF. To try to cure the homesickness we feel on ocassion,we have turned to our glorious food culture and have made all sorta of dishes. Its thanks to websites like yours that we have been able to make them taste so yummy and fill up happy bellies.
    So thank you, and definitely keep it up!

    Side note: I also can’t live to far from platanos. :p

    Also Puerto Rican, though I was born there, I am also half Dominican. Love both my islands and proud of both. I will say that the puerto rican pride somehow screams the loudest of any other place that I have encountered. I can’t help but tell everyone “HEY, I’m Puerto Rican!”

    Anywho, what brought me to your site was my desire for a piñon recipe or as you call “pastelon” and so I googled it. Was happy to find yours and have added it to my http://www.plantoeat.com site to plan for as a future meal. Was feeling nostolgic for my mom’s piñon, as it is my ABSOLUTE favorite meal of all time but I have never dared to try it out for myself. Since my mom is in Puerto Rico and I doubt she can just mail me some, I guess I’ll have to attempt it for myself.

    Just wanted to say a hello to a fellow boricua who also lives in Tulsa, OK like myself. It’s a small world indeed. Look forward to saving more of your recipes to my site. Thanks for sharing.

    What pride to see a fellow Puerto Rican doing something so awesome and allowing everyone to have a taste of our comida criolla! I love your blog and let me just say that I have made a couple of your recipes and my husband tells me I took him back to his days in Puerto Rico. he was born in raised in Utuado. I too am 100% Puerto Rican, but no one believes it either as I was born and raised here in the states! I always get asked if I am Italian or Portugese (go figure). Anyway, I am truly glad I stumbled across your blog and am now subscribed!

    Hi Merseidy! I’m so glad I stumbled across your blog! I’m Peruvian and my husband of 17 years is Puerto Rican, and I had started getting tired of making the same meals all the time. Most of them where Puerto Rican or American meals that I was making. Plus they included a lot of frying which God knows we don’t need. Being a working mom with three children and going to school, I don’t have much time to be creative. So thankfully you can be creative for all of us. I’m very much a visual person so the photography and step by step instructions are perfect for me! Since I don’t really know how to make many Peruvian dishes I decided this is the perfect time to get good at what my husband loves. Thanks so much for your recipes! I have already tried quite a few and they are delisiosos! :)

    I’m half Puerto Rican, half Guatemalan and from New York, but living in Tulsa, OK. So glad I found this website and so glad to know I’m not the only Puerto Rican out here! I’ve been missing my mom’s and abuela’s cooking SO SO much (they always cooked, and I always ate, lol). I’ve been meaning to introduce my boyfriend to some amazing Puerto Rican food and fill my craving. Thanks for the recipes!

    Hi!Merseidy I lost you a few years back I have been praying I would fine you again THANK GOD my friend did. I am so happy I am a New York rican and my MOM wasnt a great cook but I love to cook. And your recipes are the best , I move and lost your recipes now I can get them again . GOD BLESS YOU for making a 62 year old happy grandma very happy.

    I’m part Puerto-Rican…I love to cook and photograph my experiments in the kitchen.

    Living in California has proved challenging when it comes to scoring decent Latin Caribbean fare and ingredients. (I have been known to fly with a cooler when I make trips back home to Florida.) Your blog is my new favorite place to hang out. I look forward to seeing more recipes!

    Love, love, love your site! I am half Puerto Rican and half White and 100% cooking challenged. I love Puerto Rican food, but always find it hard to make it all come out like the women in my family do as they measure by their wooden spoons and their own calderos.     Hola Meseidy! I just wanted to say that I love your site and thank you for sharing the amazing recipes that Boriquas have been eating forever! I enjoy your creative combination of foods and taste!

    I have recently become vegetarian which has been a little difficult for some family to understand as the continue to cook pasteles, pastelon and pernil but I have adapted their recipes as well as yours to substitute the meat and they are still fantastic.
