Ever wake up on a Saturday morning wanting to make breakfast for you family but didn’t want to go with the typical humdrum breakfast? Well, I have a treat for you. The best part is that it’s EZ-PEA-Z. Oh, and your family will worship you for it.
I know it looks like French toast, but it’s not, no eggs. It is coated with something, just not eggs. I am a lover of French toast, and I dare say that this toast could kick French toast butt.
First I’ll show you how to make some boozy cherries. I though boozy cherries would go great with sweet almond toast. Don’t you?
In a small sauce pan, combine 8oz frozen cherries, 2 tbs of butter and 1 tbs of honey or sugar.
Cook them over medium-high heat until bubbly, about 5 minutes.
Now for the boozy part, pour in 1/4 cup of your choice of bourbon or whiskey and light it up. If it’s hot enough it will light on its own, otherwise light it with a match. Channel your best impersonation of Bevis and Butthead and start shouting “FIRE! FIRE!”, until the flames die down. Continue to cook until syrupy set aside to cool.
While the cherries are cooling, move on to the toast. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of sweet condensed milk and 2 tbs of almond extract, stir until well combined.
Slice a loaf of CHALLAH! You know like HOLLA! Anyways….
Slice a loaf of challah into just over 1/2 inch slices. Spread the sweet condensed milk mixture over both sides of the bread. Make sure you get all the way to the edges and enough for the slices almonds to stick.
Line baking sheet with parchment paper and place bread slices on baking rack. Bake in a heated 400 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until browned and caramelized.
Serve immediately with boozy cherries. Mmmmm!
The sweet condensed milk does it’s job. It toasts and caramelizes the bread to perfection. You can eat it with a fork and knife if you like our you can just spread the cherries on the toast and eat it hand to mouth. It’s all up to you. I also think it would be AWESOME to make a sandwich with put some crispy bacon and an over-medium egg between two slices. CHALLAH!!!

Just tried the Sweet Almont Toast with Boozy Cherries. They were a hit!!!
I didn’t have the alcohol so I did it without the whiskey/bourbon. My sons loved it and so did my husband. It will be a definitely repeat in our house. Thank you!
