I went on a little frenzy. A crafting frenzy.
Mind you I am not really much of a crafter. Not that I can’t craft, but crafting isn’t really my thing. Not that I never do it, obviously, just that I rarely do it.
However, I have a giant wall over my fireplace with no pictures on it. This weekend I was looking at that bare wall and thought to myself it was time to fill it, but I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg buying pictures to fill this huge space. Hence why I went on a crafting frenzy.
I kind of like the word frenzy, it makes me think of frizz and friends. Although I don’t like frizz, but I do like friends. I don’t know exactly where that leaves me, besides off subject.
Michael’s was having a sale on canvases. I stocked up on canvases and collected all of the crafty stuff I had in my house.
While I was at the craft store I found these wood letters for .40 each. I painted the canvas and some of the letters white and others blue.
The idea here was to do a word search kind of thing. But I wasn’t paying attention and accidentally wrote the abbreviation for forward. Let’s pretend I am being deep and I meant to say moving forward with God. 😀
Moving on to another craft.
This is one that I found on Pinterest and it’s crazy easy.
Glue any kind of paper to the canvas. I used strips of scrapbook paper, but you can use anything you have on hand.
Stick large vinyl letters onto the paper. I found mine at the office supply store.
Choose a word that makes you happy. Butter makes me happy, it makes things delicious.
Drizzle acrylic craft paint all over the canvas and using a foam brush spread until even coated.
Once it’s the paint is evenly spread out peel the vinyl letters off. Let the paint dry and then brush with a coat of Mod Podge to seal the canvas.
Make sure you space your letters correctly and think it through. I did not follow my own advice when I tried to do another canvas the same way.
Needless to say I was not happy with this result. Can you even tell what it says?
With the rest of my canvases I decided to stick with painting. Using a pencil I lightly sketched out what I wanted to paint and just traced over it.
I choose quotes that I loved. Notice that they are both from the amazing and joyful Julia Child.
This is supposed to say FAT = FLAVOR, but I don’t know how obvious that is. Even if it’s not obvious, the little fork and knife are a cute addition.
The two small painting with strips were done with painters tape. The circle was a bit more challenging because I had to cut the circle shape out, but I love how it turned out.
What I did was cover the canvas with overlapping painters tape, moved it to a cutting board and traced a circle. Then using an exacto knife I cut the circle out of the painters tape. Laid it back on the canvas and then laid more painters tape across creating the criss-cross pattern. I hope that made sense.
Now that I got all of these done, I have to get OB to hang them up for me, but I have no clue how to configure them.
I’ll keep you posted and let you know how that goes.
I kind of enjoyed this painting thing, I may give it another go.
