Beale Street

While Obed and I were visiting Jerry and Rebecca in West Memphis, Arkansas we all decided to cross the mighty Mississippi (by car and bridge not by raft) and visit Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee.  Beale Street is the home of blues legend BB King and the king of rock n’ roll Elvis Presley.  

Here is the sign to BB King’s Blues Club, obviously.   Why I felt compelled to tell you I have no clue.

This was very cool.  It is the facade of an old building and when you walk into it you walk into an open air restaurant, very neat.

There were several horse drawn carriages, but this one caught my attention because of the huge white German Shepard that was sitting up front.  He was just sitting there chillin’ like a villain. (Insert cheese now.)

The different signs were a lot of fun with clever messages like Miss. Polly’s Love, Peace and Chicken Grease.

Here was a clever sign from Blues City BBQ, I love the scavenging kitties.

We decided to check out Blues City BBQ, hunting for a snack.  The entire place was decorated with guitars hanging from the ceiling and walls, but we didn’t stay because it was a little too bar smokey for out taste. 

We headed down the street still in search for something to eat.  Honestly we couldn’t leave Memphis without trying some Memphis BBQ.  We found this joint PIG, Pork with an Attitude, another clever sign.  This muscle bound hog called my attention.

I was just right for what we wanted and the BBQ was great.  Obed and I just split their jumbo BBQ sandwich since we were going to eat again later with Rebecca’s family.   The pork definitely had attitude.  

One of the coolest things on Beale Street was this young kid that was tumbling down the middle of the street for tips.  He was impressive, I wish I had him on video but this slide show is the next best thing. 

If you are ever in Memphis I highly recommend you take an afternoon and checkout Beale Street.  The air is filled with smoked meat, blues music and rock n’ roll.
